Not All Home Inspectors are Created Equal
Updated: Feb 28, 2018
As Colorado's housing market continues to stay HOT, we are seeing a lot of "Home Inspectors". Some have a lot of experience and offer a great service while others do not. The fact is ALL of us will tell you that we are thorough, detailed, have integrity, and on and on the list will go. I would be surprised if a "home inspector" or anyone running a business would tell you anything otherwise. Picking the right home inspector is extremely important and can be the difference in thousands of dollars. You are about to make the biggest purchase of your life so make sure you are hiring someone who not only knows what they are doing but is also looking out for you and your family even after your inspection. Start looking for an inspector before you choose your home. This will take away a lot of the pressure to just find someone fast due to time crunches. It is always a good idea to ask around. Friends and family who have purchased a home probably hired a Home Inspector and can be a great reference for you. It is highly recommended to ask questions before you hire a Home Inspector. How long have they been in business? What is their background? Do they offer any warranties? These are great questions to ask to give you peace of mind when hiring a Home Inspector. It is always a good idea to make sure the inspector is part of a "inspection association". There are two major associations out there that are well respected and hold their members to a very high standard. One is ASHI the American Society of Home Inspectors and the other is InterNACHI the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors. We belong to both. Make sure the inspector will provide you with a completed report with plenty of time for review. Also request an electronic copy so you can e-mail it to friends and family. There are a lot of inspection companies out there who do a great job but fall short with not providing their clients with a warranty. We provide ALL of our clients with not only a quality product but quality service. Part of that service is providing great warranties to our clients that protect them and their families. The company we use is Residential Warranty Services and they do a fabulous job of helping us take care of you. The warranties included for FREE in ALL of our inspections are a 90 day warranty on structural, mechanical, sewer line (extended to 6 months with a scope), and mold. We also provide a 5 year roof leak protection plan as well as a LIFETIME safety recall check on all built in appliances. This is what sets up apart from the rest. FREE for you but it does cost us $20 per inspection and that $20 gives us a peace of mind knowing we are taking care of our customers they way they should be.
Here is a quote from the founder of InterNACHI:
Nearly all of InterNACHI's most successful members utilize RecallChek, including the largest inspection company in the U.S. and thousands of others in nearly every market. It's so simple and inexpensive to implement, there's really no excuse NOT to offer this service. If you want to know how to make more money in this business, this is it. Differentiating yourself is key, and RecallChek is hands-down the best way to do exactly that. If I were to start an Inspection business tomorrow, the first thing I would do is join InterNACHI. The second thing I would do is sign up for RecallChek.
